History:
The Our Lady of the Valley Church’s Knights of Columbus McNiece/Marrinan Memorial College Scholarship Program is named in memory of William J. McNiece and Bill Marrinan. Mr. McNiece was a charter member of the Our Lady of the Valley Church’s Council and held the offices of Grand Knight, Financial Secretary and Trustee during his years of service. Mr. Marrinan was a long serving distinguished member of our Council and held the office of Treasurer. Bill was also the champion of the Scholarship program, serving faithfully as its Chairman. The Council’s scholarship program was established as the William J. McNiece Memorial Scholarship in 1994 and was renamed the McNiece/Marrinan Memorial College Scholarship in 2017. This program continues to serve the youth of our Parish Community in memory of these two distinguished members of our order.
Eligibility Requirements:
The McNiece/Marrinan Memorial College Scholarship (Scholarship) carries the following eligibility requirements:
· Applicant’s family must be registered parishioners of Our Lady of the Valley or Holy Cross Parish Community.
· Applicant must be graduating this spring (June 2024) from High School and entering an accredited college/university during the Summer/Fall of 2024. There are no eligibility restrictions based on the type of College/University in regard to being a public or Catholic institution.
Scholarship Terms:
The scholarship (defined as a one-time donation), in the amount of three thousand dollars ($3,000.00) will be directly payable to the recipient for application towards school expenses. The applicant must provide proof of acceptance and enrollment to the college/university prior to receiving the award from the Knights of Columbus.
Number of Scholarships:
There will be two (2) scholarships, each in the amount of three thousand dollars ($3,000.00) granted to Our Lady of the Valley and/or Holy Cross Parish youth who will be attending college this fall.
Criteria:
The Knights of Columbus Scholarship Committee will be solely responsible for determining the winner of the scholarship. The decision of the committee is final. This scholarship is not based on financial need. The committee will consider the well-rounded accomplishments and participation of the applicants in the following areas in determining the scholarship recipient:
· Academic Excellence
· Extracurricular Activities
· Community Service Activities
· Our Lady of the Valley/Holy Cross Parish Service
· Scholarship Essay submission
Requirements at time of entry:
All applications must be submitted online - click "Apply Now" link.
The following must be provided to qualify as a valid submission:
· Fully completed application
· Upload Parental/Legal Guardian signed Acknowledgement Form
· Upload Parental/Legal Guardian singed Transcript Release Form
-Upload high school transcripts
All completed applications and required documents must be received electronically by May 31, 2024 - NO EXCEPTIONS.
All applications must be received electronically via the Google Forms document linked below. No paper applications will be accepted.
Parental Acknowledgement and Transcript Release forms must be signed by parent or legal guardian and uploaded to appropriate section of Google Forms application.
Unofficial high school transcripts must be uploaded with application.
Winners will be announced and presented their scholarship at the 10am mass at OLV on Sunday June 23, 2024.
